Chickpeas, also known as garbanzo beans, are an excellent source of vegetarian protein to help keep your busy little ones well-fueled. Tahini is a ground sesame paste and a common ingredient in hummus, but we have a lot of Baby and Toddler Mum-Mum fans with sesame allergies so we thought we’d try a tahini-free hummus… and it turned out great! Plus, it’s far less expensive than store-bought hummus and free of any preservatives or additives. This makes a great well-balanced snack for kids served with Veggie or Original Mum-Mum biscuits, as we know kids love to dip!
1 (15 oz.) can garbanzo beans, drained and rinsed
2 tablespoons extra virgin olive oil
1 tablespoon fresh lemon juice
1 garlic clove minced
3/4 teaspoon ground cumin
1/4 teaspoon salt
2 – 4 tablespoons water
2 tablespoons fresh parsley, chopped (optional)
Add the garbanzo beans, olive oil, lemon juice, garlic, cumin, salt, and 2 tablespoons of water to a food processor. Process until smooth and creamy. Add water as needed, 1 tablespoon at a time to reach desired consistency. Stir in parsley and store covered in the refrigerator.
Serve as a dip with Mum-Mums, or spread a layer between two Mum-Mums with sliced veggies for a mini snack-wich.
